Victorinox Forged Chef's knife 25cm
Forging takes many steps. A piece of steel, about a centimeter thick, is heated and placed in a knife shaped mold then pounded by a forging hammer. Excess metal is ground away and the knife is heated and cooled repeatedly (tempered to strengthen the steel. These operations are followed by grinding and polishing the body of the blade and by sharpening the edge. Then the handle is fitted to the tang. The final product is a knife with a heavy blade, a bolster and a full tang.
